Biography
A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, Pandit Sadashiv Pawar’s brilliant solo and accompaniment performances have established him as one of the finest and most accomplished tabla players in the country.
He was born and raised in the small village of Wai in the Satara district of Maharashtra, India. He had the privilege of acquiring the unique skills of solo tabla performance from his guru, the doyen of the Farrukhabad gharana, Ustad Amir Hussein Khan Saheb. Although Ustadji possessed knowledge of various gharanas such as Delhi, Agra, Farrukhabad, and Punjab, he went on to develop his own distinctive style of tabla playing.
A child prodigy, Pt. Sadashiv Pawar began performing at a very early age. He has appeared at prominent music conferences in countries such as China, Afghanistan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, among others. A favored accompanist for many of India’s leading musicians, including Padma Bhushan Ustad Halim Jaffer Khan, Panditji’s uncanny intuition and remarkable improvisational skills made him one of the finest performers of his time.
In 1983, Panditji founded his own organization, the Sadashiv Academy of Music, with the vision of promoting Indian classical music worldwide. Each year, the academy invites some of the greatest classical musicians and provides opportunities for emerging talent through its annual music conference. His vision continues to be carried forward by his son and disciple, Shri Rupak Pawar, who founded his own music organization, Rupak Sangeetalaya.
Pt. Sadashiv Pawar is the recipient of numerous awards and titles from prestigious organizations and is a highly recognized A-top grade artiste of All India Radio.
