Tejendra Narayan Majumdar is one of the most popular and celebrated Sarod players in India today. He started his music training under his grandfather Bibhuti Ranjan Majumdar with mandolin. He also received vocal and tabla training under Amaresh Chowdhury and Anil Palit. He received extenssive training of Maihar - Senia gharana under Ustad Bahadur Khan for 18 years until his death in 1989. After Ustad Bahadur Khan, Majumdar continued training under Usatd Ali Akbar Khan and Ajay Sinha Roy. He stood first in the All India Radio music competition in 1981 and was awarded the President's gold medal and the Pandit D. V. Paluskar award. Now he is a performer busy in concerts all over the globe. Besides being a Sarod player of high calibre, he also has scored music for Bengali films such as Tollylights, Hanankaal. |
