Lalan Piya, originally a Hindu Brahmin used to live in a village nearby Lucknow. He was a remarkable composer in Hindustani Art Music and his Thumari; especially Bandhi Thumari compositions are very popular. Lyrics in his Thumari-s are very beautiful along with the melodic nuances. He died in Lucknow around 1926. Book of his Thumari “Lalan Piya Ki Thumariyan” was published in 1977. |
