Vinayak Chittar has been an A-Grade sitar artiste of All India Radio since 1992. He had his early musical education under Pt. P G Parab, a disciple of Pt. Ravi Shankar and Smt. Annapurna Devi, followed by nearly 25 years of study with Pt. Arvind Parikh of the Imdad Khan gharana. Shri Chittar is known for his independent outlook and expertise with complex and hybrid ragas. Chittar strongly believes in open-source sharing of his material and technical knowledge with other musicians, and has actively helped a number of his musician colleagues, most notably Sarodiya Arnab Chakrabarty and Sitarists Ravi Chary and Ashwin Dalvi. He has performed at several top-tier festivals in India and has also performed on two published recordings, 'Sitar Guru' and 'Bandish Parampara', both released by Navras Records. Vinayak has also done extensive post-production work on both recordings. |
