Miyan Achapal was a Khayaliya and composer in early 19th century. There is no clue about his original name, dates of birth, but he was from the tradition of QawwalBachche and lived in Delhi. He used to sing Khayal, Tarana, Triwat, Sargam, Chaturang, etc. He was contemporary to Bade Change Khan (death AD 1857) and similarly was a court musician in Delhi court. He had many disciples and the legendary singer Tanras Khan was his famous disciple. Several of his Bandishes are famous among musicians till today, such as 'Guru Bin Kaise Gun Awe'¯ (Yaman), 'Hari Hari Daliyaa'¯ (Bahar), 'Aaj Manaawan Aye¯' (Nat Kedar), 'Jobana Re Lalaiyaa¯' (Bhairaw Bahar), etc. He died in AD 1860. |
