Born in a culturally attuned family of Uttarakhand, Sarita Pathak Yajurvedi started learning classical vocal music at an early age of five from Pt. Shankar Nath Patil of Karnataka. At a later stage, she continued to learn from the eminent vocalist Vidushi Smt. Sulochana Brahaspati. A PhD from Delhi University, she received the Sahitya Kala Parishad scholarship as well as a merit scholarship from the Delhi University. In addition to this, Sarita had participated in many National and International seminars covering wide range of topics on a regular basis. Sarita has been a regular artist of AIR and Doordarshan as a Hindustani Classical vocalist. She has rendered her voice for many T.V. Serials, Documentaries, Discovery Channel, and Salaam Balak Trust etc. She has also produced program series for National Channel and Archives of All India Radio. She has produced her own album, ‘Yeh Naina’ brought out by “Music Today”. “Midas” has also brought out her series of DVDs on learning classical music. She has written a book entitled ’Uttarakhand: Sangeet evam Sanskriti’ in which folk music of Uttarakhand has been associated with Indian Classical music. As a cultural secretary of ‘Uttarayani’ organization, Sarita also promotes regional folk culture of Uttarakhand. Apart from giving her own recitals, she is also training young pupil in Hindustani Vocal Classical music. At present she is the Head of the Music Department, Bharati College, University of Delhi. |
