Anupam was born in a family having a strong educational background and a history of achievements and honour in the society, and there started a journey. Music started in his life at the tender age of 9, in the form of a percussion instrument Tabla under Pandit Swatantra Kumar Savita in Jabalpur. Whilst learning Tabla, his attention was also on the notes and the vocal chords of Guru Mrs. Daithankar, who taught classical vocal music in the adjacent room. So much was the influence of music that Anupam learnt several vocal bandishes just by listening.
As the days went by, his passion for music, through the medium of Tabla, grew and reached its peak. His musical journey with Tabla lasted for 13 long years, during which he mastered the different techniques and fundamental aspects of the Taal and consequently, he became one of the proficient tabla players. This bagged him several domestic and international concerts with some of the greatest exponents of music.
Realising that Tabla is just not enough to quench his thirst, Anupam had to take several decisions in his musical life to achieve what he was looking for and he decided to shift his focus to another, but greater, medium of music. After a long and strenuous wait Anupam came across a recording of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan's Sarod concert. Anupam was enthralled by the Master's supreme performance. After listening to the Master, these assertions were crystal clear for him. Even though it wasn't easy for Anupam to decide to convert the fascination into reality, the Khan Sahab effect was so much that, finally he made up his mind to explore this majestic instrument and since then there is no looking back. Anupam's joy had no boundaries when he discovered that Pandit Sudhir Phadke, an eminent Sitar player and a student of the Legendary Annapurna Devi of the Seniya Maihar Gharana. This gave him a direct access to the Gharana. Anupam was under the tutelage of Pt. Sudhir Phadke for 3 years he could learn many rare bandishes of the legendary Gururma Annapurna Devi. Further he was fortunate to have his training under Ken Zukerman, a senior disciple of Late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandit Sohan Neelkanth. In the due course of time he also got this opportunity to meet his God, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and learn from him. Anupam is currently learning under Pandit Rajeev Taranath and Pandit Tejendra Narayan Mujumdar.
