Jogiraj Sikidar is a Hindustani Classical Vocalist and founder director of 'Malhaar'. Jogiraj's odyssey in music began at the age of four in Silchar, Assam. He went on to train in the guru-shishya parampara of Kirana Gharana under stalwarts like Pt. Mani Prasad and Smt. Shikha Ganguli. At the age of 18, his quest for musical treasures brought him to New Delhi, where he was trained in Thumri and Ghazal singing by Padmashree Prof. Rita Ganguli. Under her able guidance, he mastered the legendary style of Thumri rendition of the late 'Thumri queen' Siddeswari Devi and 'Malka-e-Ghazal' Begum Akhtar; a rare accomplishment for artists of his generation. He has performed at several reputed music festivals and events across South East Asia and the Middle East. Apart from his solo Hindustani classical concerts, Jogiraj also directs and produces themed musical concerts through Malhaar, the first Indian music choir in Dubai that he founded in 2010. With over 100 Asian artists, all trained by Jogiraj himself, Malhaar has rendered highly successful shows in Dubai on a variety of themes. They include, Rooh-e-Ishq, a musical tribute to four Sufi masters across India, Pakistan and Persia; Jashn-e-Awadh, a musical journey to the kingdom of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah; O Ganga,The Echoes from the River of Life, Draupadi- The Voice of Dignity, Haaye Akhtari and several Indian patriotic and festive concerts on prestigious podiums. Malhaar is UAE’s first Indian music choir - Malhaar, an Indian choir blends the intricacies of the sub-continent's rich music with the disciplined harmony found typically in the western choir system. It is indeed a unique experience to hear different genres of Indian music being performed in four-part harmony - be it traditional classical, folk or popular patriotic songs - in different languages. Malhaar is a celebration of India’s ‘unity in diversity’ through the language of music. At the forefront of this choir is the talented Hindustani musician Jogiraj Sikidar. Currently based in Dubai, Jogiraj trained in Hindustani classical music under an illustrious list of Gurus that includes Padmashree Prof. Rita Ganguly. The members of the choir include passionate singers and instrumentalists, from the age of seven to forty, all based in the UAE. Malhaar looks forward to an exciting future in the international music arena. Malhaar has received critical acclaim for its musicals Rooh-e-Ishq, Jashn-e-Awadh, O Ganga, Draupadi and Haaye Akhtari.
