Biography
Arawind Thatte is an sarod artist. Arawind Thatte is an artiste who has created a niche for himself as a Harmonium soloist and accompanist. An embodiment of Music itself, Dr Thatte stands out among his contemporaries because of his high principles and artistic genius. He is an in-depth thinker and his scholarship and versatility have made him a unique blend as a researcher and a performer.
An internationally acclaimed Harmonium soloist, Dr Thatte is the recipient of the coveted Pt Kumar Gandharva award, Pt Bandubhaiyya Chougule award, Govindrao Tembe Sangitkar award and late Smt Leelatai Jalgaokar award.
He has done fundamental research in Musicology. He has given a completely new dimension to the Harmonium as a solo instrument. Dr Thatte has composed numerous gats (compositions to be played on instruments) specifically for the Harmonium. He has devised many techniques to exploit the potential of the instrument to the fullest. He has also been trained for many years in vocal music by the maestro Pt Jasraj. Recently his book Sangeet Vimarsha was released.
