Biography
Niyamat Khan, originally a Veena player from the lineage of Tansen's daughter, was under patronage of Mughal King Mohammad Shah Rangila. Later he left the royal court after an incidence of insult and composed hundreds of Khayals with nom de plume 'Sadarang' (one who is always successful in dispensing colour or beauty in music) which gained instant popularity. With this, a new genre of Khayal was crafted. So, Sadarang is said to be the inventor of modern Khayal genre.
