Biography
Vasundhara Komkali (born 1931) is an Hindustani classical vocalist. Vasundhara Komkali (Shrikhande) was born in a music loving family at Kolkata. She learnt music under Prof. B R Deodhar in Mumbai from 1946. Later she took lessons from Pt Kumar Gandharva, also.
After getting married to the great singer Pt Kumar Gandharva, she not only studied with him, also gave very apt vocal support to him; along with taking care of Pt Kumar Ji's health and musical family. Her contribution in Pt. Kumar Gandharva's music is immense as she was always with him in his creative programs such as Geet Varsha, Geet Hemant, Geet Vasant, Tulsidas Ek Darshan, Thumari-Tappa-Tarana Mehfil, Tambe Geet Rajani, Mala Umajlele BalGandharva, Ritu Darshan, etc. She sung with him in 'Triveni' a LP of Bhajans of Soordas, Meerabai & Kabir, commercially released by HMV.
She sings Khayal, folk songs, Bhajans very effectively. She is a regular artist of All India Radio and DoorDarshan. She is been awarded by many prestigious honors including Sangeet Natak Academy award.
She has carried forward the musical linage of Pt. Kuma Gandharva and has trained various students of music including her own daughter Kalapini Komkali.
