Biography

Born in Dhakuria, Calcutta Sandhya Mukhopadhyay is one of the brightest names in the field of Indian Classical Music. Besides gloriously performing Khayals at various conferences and recording them, Sandhya was a huge name when it was a matter of singing in films too. She has done playback in hundreds of films and has over three thousand and five hundred records to her credit. At various points of time, Sandhya had taken training in music from Sri Jamini Gangopadhyay, Sri Santosh Basumullick, Pandit A.T.Kanan and Pandit Chinmoy Lahiri but her Guru was Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan under whom she had taken talim for years and mastered Indian Classical Music. Sandhya Mukhopadhyay was, perhaps the only singer from India who was so greatly successful in both light songs and Indian Classical Music; an artiste who was seen at the recording studio recording for films and also at conferences singing Khayals in the presence of other stalwarts of Indian Classical Music!
