Biography
Vasant Thakar is an Hindustani classical vocalist. Known for contributions to Hindustani classical music, performance, teaching, and repertoire building.
After attaining ‘Sangeet Prabhakar’ degree and also completing M.A in Economics in 1949, Vasant Thakar started teaching music at Prayag Sangeet Samiti. In 1954, he joined ‘Hindi High School’ as a music teacher. In 1955, he joined ‘Lawrence School’ at Sanavar as music teacher.
After completing ‘Sangeet Alankar’ in 1960, he joined Gandharva Mahavidyalay, New Delhi where is worked as a music teacher for 20 good years. He visited USA with the famous ‘Gandharva Choir troupe’. From 1982, he was training pupils freelance.
Rather than a performing singer, Vasant Thakar was more known as a good creative teacher. He was always experimental in teaching techniques and was successful in making students learn in a very interesting way. While working at Gandharva Mahavidyalay, he experimented a lot even in composing music for kids.
