Biography
Rajan Sachdeva is an harmonium artist. Known for contributions to Hindustani classical music, performance, teaching, and repertoire building.
Dr. Sachdeva received his M. Music in sitar and his Ph.D. in Indian music from the Pracheen Kala Kendra (University of Music and Dance) at Chandigarh, India. His sitar guru is the renowned Pandit Vachaspati Sharma. Rajan ji is an exponent of the gayaki style of sitar pioneered by the legendary Ustad Vilayat Khan. He had the opportunity to learn from the maestro himself.
As the founder and director of the Detroit Institute of Indian Music, Rajan ji has dedicated his life to preserving and spreading the beauty of Indian music. He currently teaches classes in both vocal music and instrumental music on a wide range of instruments including sitar, sarod, harmonium and tabla. Rajan ji also teaches at the University of Michigan through the student organization Saadhanai, offering students the rare opportunity to learn Hindustani vocal music, sitar and tabla.
