Biography

Sharad Gokhale (1946–2011) is an Hindustani classical vocalist. Sharad Gokhale was a respectable singer & also an actor in Marathi musical stage. As a child, he started learning classical music at 13 from Vinayakrao R Patwardhan. He got training of Khayal in Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar's branch of Gwalior Gayaki of under his Guru. Incidentally he had a musical voice very much resembling to that of Pandit Ram Marathe & he also amalgamated the nuances of his style of singing very effectively.

Later he became associated with Jairam Shiledar’s “Marathi Rangbhoomi” in 1974 and enacted lead roles in Marathi Music plays including Sangeet Sawyamwar, Saubhadra etc.

Pandit Gokhale was the recipient of several awards, including those conferred by the Pune and Mumbai divisions of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad, Sangli-based Deval Smarak Samiti's “Natyacharya Govind Ballal Deval” award, the Pune Municipal Corporation's “Balgandharva” award and Rajya Natya Parishad's “Jeevan Gaurav” award.
