Biography
Diego Hauptman is graduated in philosophy at the Universidade Federal do Paraná and studied music at the Faculdade de Artes do Paraná in Brazil. He is a multi-instrumentalist, who since 1993 has been studying guitar and other stringed instruments such as: bass guitar, mandolin, violin and sitar.
Among his inspirations are: Djavan, Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento, Mercedes Sosa, Jaco Pastorius, Jimmy Page, Paco de Lucia, Vicente Amigo, Pat Metheny, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Ustad Shujaat Khan, Egberto Gismonti and Hermeto Pascoal.
Mr. Hauptman has been a member of many bands and music groups such as The Liverpoolgas (Beatles cover), Bayaka (World Music Orchestra), also directed and produced a Brazilian and Indian music fusion band, The Upanishads. He has collaborated in various albums, playing along with great Brazilian recording artists, having released two albums of his own.
Deepening his research on world music forms, Mr. Hauptman has studied the art of Sitar playing under the guidance of Mr. Abhik Mukherjee, Mr. Ramprapanna Battacharya, Mr. Subhranil Sarkar, Ustad Shujat Khan and Ustad Shahid Parvez.
Also among his teachers are: Maestro Mauro Buss (violin), Daniel Sant’ana (Brazilian guitar), Arthur Maia (bass guitar), Liane Guariente (vocal), Plinio Silva (world music), Paulo Vieira Neto (philosophy), Helder Araújo (Hindustani music), Ratnabali Adhikari (Indian vocal), Meeta Ravindra (Indian vocal).
He has been appointed as the sitar teacher for the ICC in São Paulo, and has collaborated for the past three years with choreographer Adriana Di Cillo Drix, as the musical director of her dance troupe.
Mr Diego Hauptman is the vice-president of Brazilian based cross-arts NGO, Mundaka Arte & Cultura, and is currently touring in India, collaborating with Classical Indian music and dance companies.
