Gundubuwa Ingale

Pandit Gundubuwa Bhukubuwa Ingale was a doyen of Gwalior gharana. He had musical background as his father Pandit Bhukubuwa Ingale was a Khayal singer and served as a court musician at Aundh state, Maharashtra in the middle of 19th century. Gundubuwa was from the first batch of disciples of Gayanacharya Balkrishnabuwa Ichalkaranjikar, the great Khayal singer who is given credit of spreading Gwalior Gharana Gayaki in Maharashtra. After receiving extensive training under Pandit Ichalkaranjikar, Gundubuwa joined Aundh state as a court singer after death of his father Bhikubuwa and served there till 1918. In the same year, he opened his own music school in Sangli, which was inaugurated by his Guru Pandit Ichalkaranjikar. But in few months, closing his own school he joined his Guru-Bandhu Vishnu Digambar Paluskar's Gandharva Mahavidyalay in Mumbai as a chief instructor where is taught for an year. After this, coming back to Sangli, he operated music school in Sangli again with Pandit Anant Manohar Joshi, another Guru-Bandhu. Again coming back to Anudh, he served there as a court singer during 1921 to 1928. In 1928, he again returned to Sangli and re-opened his music school, naming it as 'Balkrishna Sangeet Vidyalay' after his Guru's name. Unfortunately, he passed away on Dec. 18 1928. Pandit Gundubuwa was more known as a Guru, rather than a concert performer and some of his best disciples were musicologist G H Ranade, Balwantrao Sahasrabuddhe and Chintaman Yadnyeshwar Joshi. He also trained two of his sons in Gwalior Gharana Gayaki.
