Biography

Pandit Narayan Bodas, son and disciple of Pandit Laxmanrao Bodas is a eminent vocalist of Gwalior Gharana. He belongs to a family with musical lineage from Sangli, Maharashtra. His father Laxmanrao and uncle Shankarrao Bodas, both were disciples of Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. Laxmanrao Bodas runned 'Gandharva Mahavidyalay' at Karachi for several decades. After having training under Pandit Paluskar, Laxmanrao Bodas was influenced with the music of Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan of Patiala Gharana in Karachi. After the partition in 1947, the family moved to Mumbai. Narayan Bodas recieved training for music under his father Pandit Laxmanrao Bodas as well as Pandit Pralhad Ganu (a singer and Dilruba player, disciple of Ustad Khadim Hussain Khan of Agra Gharana). He is a regular performer and Guru. Narayan Bodas also had a long career as a stage-singer in Marathi musical theatre. He was principal of Gandharva Mahavidyalay at Vashi for few years. After his retirement, he is settled in Pune and is teaching some students. Most prominent of this disciples is his own son Kedar Bodas.
