Biography
Tarabai Shirodkar was a brilliant singer, born in Shiroda, Goa. At the age of 8, she started learning Khayal singing under Pt. Bhaskarbua Bakhale. Bakhale stayed in Goa for a one year in this period they given special Taalim (training) to Tarabai. After one year later buwa going to Pune. Tarabai came to Pune in 1912 and got training again for 2 years. In 1916 Tarabai went to Mumbai to receive extensive training. After this 7 years extensive training, Tarabai became a famous singer of her time, people started her calling 'Gaan-Shukra-Tara'. She get the training of Gwalior, Agra and Jaipur gharana Gayaki under Pandit Bhaskarbuwa Bakhale. She was well versed in various genre such as Tappa, Thumari, Hori, Bhajan, etc.
After her Gurus death in 1922, Tarabai stop the music concert and stayed in Solapur. Tarabai died at the age of 67 in 1947.
