Biography
Saurabh Vartak developed a fascination for classical music at a tender age. At the age of eight he started his basic lessons of Harmonium at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya,Pune. At the age of twelve he refined and polished his skills for 12 years under the guidance of Shri Madhav Marne, a senior disciple of Harmonium Maestro Pandit Appa Saheb Jagaonkar. In the year 2002 , he attended a Live performance of the legendary flutist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia at the Sawai Gandharva Music Festival and was spellbound by Panditji’s magical and mellifluous performance and from that day he determined to learn Bansuri. He became a disciple of the legendary flutist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.
He is a versatile artist with focus on pure classical solos, duets with sitar, sarod, violin and vocal. He has his own fusion band and has performed with international artists like Shakir Khan and Shaunak Abhisheki. Recently Saurabh performed at the opening ceremony of Pune International Film Festival on 8th January 2015 with the ace percussionist Ustad Taufiq Qureshi (brother of Ustad Zakir Husain). Saurabh regularly performs along with Ustad Taufiq Qureshi and his son Shikhar Naad Qureshi.
He is an electronics and telecommunication engineer with distinction from Pune University and runs a business of electronic surveillance under the name "Eagle Eye Surveillance Solutions".
