Biography
Sharayu Kalekar (born 1933) is an Hindustani classical vocalist. Sharayu Kalekar was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh in and took her initial training from Pt. Bholanath Bhatt. Later, she took training from the eminent musician and musicologist, Acharya K.C.D. Brahaspati. She had a large repertoire of compositions in Khayal, Dhrupad, Thumri and Dadra and many of these compositions belonged to rare Ragas.
She was an A grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. She was a distinguished teacher of music and held senior positions in many music institutions. She also held the office of the Vice Chancellor of Indira Kala Sangeet Vishvavidyalaya from 1991-1994. She was presented with Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 2002 and the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 1996.
