Biography

Yunus Hussain Khan (1927-1991) was born in Agra on November 15, 1927. He studied mainly under his father Ustad Vilayat Husain Khan of Agra Gharana and used to sing with him as a supporting musician at a very young age. He studied also under Ustad Faiyaz Husain Khan and his maternal uncle Azmat Husain Khan of Atrauli. He composed Bandish-s under the penname ‘Darpan’. For a time, he was attached to the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts at Delhi University. For some time, he was associated with the Sangeet Research Academy (Kolkata). Before his retirement, he became a professor of music at the Vishva Bharati University in Shantiniketan. He died on September 29, 1991, of a heart attack in New Delhi.
