Meaning
This bandish tells the story of a woman sharing her emotional pain with her friend. She says, “Listen, my dear friend, to what my beloved is doing. He is hurting me and treating me unfairly.” The tone is one of frustration and sadness, as she feels neglected and wronged in the relationship. In the second part, she explains that although he writes letters to her, which suggests some connection remains, her heart still aches deeply. The reason for her pain is that he has taken another woman with him, making her feel replaced and betrayed. The piece expresses a very universal human emotion, jealousy and heartbreak, where love is mixed with hurt because of divided attention and loyalty.
