बिरहा से तन जरे
अब कौन जतन कर पाएं चैन ।
देखूं चंद्र तो पियामुख सुमरू
चंदन अगन बढाएं
असुवन माल झरे ॥
Meaning
Separation from my dear one is burning my body. Who will now keep me in happiness? When I look at the moon I am reminded of the countenance of my dear beloved. (Applying) Sandalwood paste (which otherwise pacifies) adds to the burning. Tears from my eyes flow like a garland.
