sarmada! gama-e ishqa bula-havaasa raa na dihanda
soza-e-dila-e paravaanaa magasa raa na dihanda |
umra baayada ke yaara aayada ba kinaara
ina daulate-sarmada hama kasa raa na dihanda ||

सर्मद! गम-ए इश्क़ बुल-हवास रा न दिहन्द
सोज़-ए-दिल-ए परवाना मगस रा न दिहन्द ।
उम्र बायद के यार आयद ब किनार
इन दौलते-सर्मद हम कस रा न दिहन्द ॥
Meaning
This khyal is from a poem by Sarmad. The translation is as follows: Sarmad! the blissful ache of Love Divine To seekers of the senses is not given. The flame of the heart is for the moth alone; The fly upon the filth can know it not. A whole lifetime of yearning, sad and mad - Only then did thy Loved One come to thy arms! This Wealth Infinite that belongs to thee, Sarmad! alas! to all may not be given!
