Origin
Raga Asavari has a long history and there is mention of this Raga in many medieval texts (though the Raga-Roop has always got changed in the flow of time).
The word Asavari has etymologically described as -
1) deriving from 'Ashaa-vari' - the female who is expecting his beloved to come. (So, this name suggests that the Raga has mood of an 'ProshitaPatika Nayika')
2) deriving from 'Asi-ari' - the enemy of snakes, i.e. snake charmer. (So, there is depiction of snake charmer for depiction of Raga Asavari in many medieval miniature paintings)
