Origin

Raga Haunsadhwani is a recent additions in the Raga-corpus of Hindustani music from the south Indian sister tradition of Carnatic music. It came in the north Indian Raga-scene in ealry 21st century, but became innormously popular amongst the performers and listeners within a very short time. Ustad Aman Ali Khan Saheb, a doyen of BhendiBazar Gharana composed a Bandish ‘Lagi Lagan Sakhi Pati Sang‘, which was an adaptation of famous Carnatic Kriti ‘Vatapi Ganapatim Bhajeham‘. This Bandish got huge popularity and later it came as a film song sung by Lata Mangeshkar ‘Ja Tose Nahi Bolu Kanhaiya‘. Singers from BhandiBazar Gharana popularized this Raga. The gramophone reocrds of the rendition of this Raga by Ustad Amir Khan, Pandit Jasraj, Begum Parveen Sultana, Kishori Amonkar, Veena Sahasrabuddhe are loved by the audience.
