Though the Raga-name sounds as if it is a Raga ‘imported’ from the Carnatic system, the truth is that apart from the name, there is no correspondence between Hindustani and Carnatic versions of Kalavati. Obviously, the Raga is a new entrant into the Hindustani Raga corpus. It is not surprising that there are no traditional compositions in the Raga and especially no Dhrupad-s or Dhamar-s are found in it. As is to be expected, Khayal compositions in this Raga are by new composers. It became popular in middle of 20th century.
