Deceptive games are games where rewards are designed to lead agents away from a global optimum policy. In this paper, we have developed a deceptive generator that generated three different type of traps including greedy, smoothness and generality trap. The generator was successful in generating levels for a large set of games in the General Video Game Level Generation Framework. Our experimental results show that all tested agents were vulnerable to several kinds of deceptions.

An Empirical Taxonomy of Monetized Random Reward Mechanisms in Games2020 •
In this paper, we propose a comprehensive and empirically grounded taxonomy of monetized random reward mechanisms (RRMs), which we created through an examination of over one hundred free-to-play and paid-to-play games released in the US, Germany, and Japan. RRMs have recently gained increased attention within game studies. However, few attempts have been made to clarify the structure and implementation of RRMs and their cultural and societal influence. We offer an evidence-based classification of RRMs, aiming to contribute to a wide range of related academic research activities and social debates and to facilitate cross-disciplinary discussion. Borrowing from recent literature, we deconstructed the way RRMs are implemented in 108 games. We identified three major strategies and 40 types of implementation. In particular, this taxonomy covers the majority of RRMs implemented in publicly available mobile games worldwide and will play an essential role in facilitating constructive discussions about RRMs.
In this paper we investigate the phenomenon colloquially known as " loot boxes " or " loot crates ". Loot boxes became a hot topic towards the end of 2017 when several legislative bodies proposed that they were essentially gambling mechanisms and should therefore be legislated as such. We argue that the term " loot box " and the phenomena it covers are not sufficiently precise for academic use and instead introduce the notion of " random reward mechanisms " (RRMs). We offer a categorization of RRMs, which distinguishes between RRMs that are either " isolated " from real world economies or " embedded " in them. This distinction will be useful in discussion about loot boxes in general, but specifically when it comes to the question of whether or not they represent instances of gambling. We argue that all classes of RRMs have gambling-like features, but that only one class can be considered to be genuine gambling.
Given the evidence for the motivating influence of electronic gaming machines (EGM) jackpots on intensifying player behaviour (Rockloff and Hing in J Gambl Stud 1–7, 2013), there is good reason to explore consumer-protection features. Jackpot Expiry is a potential feature of a mandatory pre-commitment system or player identification system (e.g., loyalty program) whereby the availability of jackpots expires after a fixed interval of play. One hundred and thirty volunteers (males = 56, females = 74) played a laptop- simulated EGM with a starting $20 real-money stake. In the test condition, players were shown a ‘‘relevant’’ message stating that the promised jackpot had expired and could no longer be won by the participant (after the 20th trial). In the irrelevant message condition a similar pop-up message simply said to push the button to continue. Lastly, a control condition had no pop-up message about the jackpot expiring. The results showed that betting speeds (one indicator of gambling intensity) were significantly slowed by the relevant ‘expiry’ message. Most importantly, all wagers past the 20th trial were pro- grammed as losses. Player receiving the ‘expiry’ message for a cash jackpot quit with significantly more money remaining on the machine. Therefore, jackpot expiry was effective in limiting player losses, while there was no evidence that jackpot expiry reduced self-rated player enjoyment of the simulated EGM experience.

Video games are no stranger to us listening to. Video games are one of the rapidly growing entertainment industries. Video Games content request are always evolving but making video games is not easy and also resource-consuming. One way to prevent this problem is by using Procedural Content Generation or known as PCG. By using PCG, the replaybility of level in a video game increase. The algorithm used in the application of this PCG is Drunkard's Walk. Level is generated randomly by using this algorithm. This study aims to design and build a video game with roguelike genre using the Drunkard's Walk algorithm, which was created with using Unity game engine. After finishing building the game, then player satisfaction level is measured by using GUESS or Guest User Satisfaction Scale. By using GUESS as a measuring tool, 35 respondents successfully obtained. From 35 respondents, the value obtained using GUESS as a benchmark is 84.58% which is very good.
