Biography
Sandhya Dharm is a brilliant Bharat Natyam dancer. She got the sense of music and rhythm from her father, famous Tabla player late S. V. Patwardhan. She had initial training under Smt. Tatey at Ashwini Kala Kendra, Mumbai. Further she received guidance from Smt. Prarana Desai in Pune. Currently she is undergoing extensive training of nuances of Bharat Natyam dance style under the expert guidance of Guru Maithili Raghavan. Sandhya has proved herself as a very proficient dancer and her dance performance is marked always with full devotion, energy and subtitle expressions.
Sandhya Dharm has executed her creative talent as a choreographer, also. She has choreographed for many ballets, documentary films and dramas. Her chorographical works contain minute detailing of the theme after deep thought process, fluidity of movements and craft of adding nuances. Her choreographies has been appreciated and praised by senior maestros as well as the common viewers. Some of her major choreographies are - Samarth Bhaaw Darshan, Madhuram, Geet Gopal, Samwaad, Prahelika, Wyatha Bolate Kawya Chirantan, Kalidas Vilas, Saarthak, Parijatak.
Keeping in mind a dictum of spread and propagation of classical arts, Sandhya established ‘Kala Ghar’, an academy for education of Bharat Natyam and other classical arts. ‘Kala Ghar’ was established in 1995 and in these last 15 years, along with regular coaching of dance, she has organized various workshops and concerts for generating awareness and appreciation for classical art forms. She is known as a genuine, creative and hardworking Guru and many of her students have already done Arangetram performances keeping a mark of excellence. Sandhya is also connected to ‘Harp Research Foundation’, Pune.
Sandhya and her troupe have performed on many celebrated platforms in India. She has participated in dance and music festivals, to name a few – Pandit Ram Marathe Smriti Samaroh (Thane), Pandit Vasantrao Deshpande Smriti Samaroh (Chinchwad), Geet Ramayan Festival (Pune), Century performance of Poet Sudhir Moghe’s ‘Kawita PanoPani’ (Pune), E TV Marathi Channel’s show on ‘Ga Di Madgulkar’, Maharashtra State Film Award function (Mumbai), etc.
