Biography

Amit Kavthekar (born 1984) is an tabla artist. a highly accomplished Indian classical tabla artist and a “Ganda-Bandh Shagird” of the legendary Ustad Allarakha. With rhythm deeply ingrained in his musical foundation, Amit began his tabla training at the young age of six under Ustad Allarakha, one of the greatest tabla maestros of all time.

He further refined his artistry under the guidance of Ustad Zakir Hussain, an internationally renowned tabla virtuoso and global icon in Indian classical music, percussion, and world music.

Amit Kavthekar has performed with some of the most eminent musicians in Indian classical music, including Ustad Zakir Hussain, Sivamani, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, Ustad Ashish Khan, Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta, Pt. Kushal Das, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, and Pt. Jasraj. His performances span prestigious platforms such as Google Talks, Berklee College of Music, MIT, and major music festivals across the United States and India.

He was featured at the United Nations Day Concert 2018 alongside Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ayaan Ali Bangash, and Amaan Ali Bangash, and has also performed with the Refugee Orchestra Project.
