Biography

Born and raised in the United States, Aarshin Karande grew obsessed with Indian Classical music from a young age, enamored with records by Bhimsen Joshi, Zakir Hussain, and Pandit Jasraj. Initiated into art by his mother, Adity, and music by his father, Sanjeev, Aarshin learned the basics of tabla and harmonium playing at age 5. At age 10, he learned the basics of Hindustani Classical music with Vasu Sundarraj (disciple of Pandit Jasraj and Narain Prasad) for a few years. At age 13, he began advanced vocal training with Sandeep Ranade "Naadrang" (disciple of Pandit Jasraj and Shobha Abhyankar). From age 11, he began studying tabla with Amit Kavkthekar (disciple of Alla Rakha Khan and Zakir Hussain). A graduate of the University of Washington Bothell, London School of Economics, and University of Oxford in media studies, audience psychology, global studies, and technology policy, Aarshin brings an eclectic approach to his training in the Mewati Gharana and Punjab Gharana traditions. He is currently studying AI Ethics at the University of Cambridge.
