Bhurji Khan was the son of Ustad Alladiya Khan, the founder of the Jaipur Gharana. He was born in 1890 and was named Shamsuddin Khan. A fine vocalist himself, he concentrated mainly on teaching students to propagate the new style founded by his father. He taught many students, many of whom also learnt from his father and his elder brother (Badruddin) Manji Khan. Among his notable disciples are his son Azizuddin Khan alias Baba, Mallikarjun Mansur, GajananRao Joshi, Dhondutai Kulkarni etc. |
