Balasaheb Poochhwale was son and disciple of Pt. Rajabhaiya Poochhawale of Gwalior Gharana. He also studied under Pt. Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande and Pt. Shrikrishna N. Ratanjankar. He was a wellversed singer of Gwalior Gharana, having a great repertoire of traditional Ragas and Bandishes. He has equal command on Khayal, Tappa, Tarana, Trivat, Chaturang, Ashtapadi, Thumari, etc. He composed many beautifull Bandishes, which were published in his autobiography "Main Jaisa Bhi Hun" (2003). He was awarded with many prestigious honors such as Tansen Award, Sangeet Natak Akademy award, ITC SRA award, etc. |
