Ustad Banne Khan (also spell as Banney Khan) was disciple of Ustad haddu Khan of Gwalior Gharana. Miyan Banne Khan hailed from a village near Amritsar called Nangli-Nowshera and it is said that he was responsible for introducing Khayal into Punjab. His disciple was Ustad Bhai Ata Muhammad who trained his son Ustad Bhai Lal ji, who also received training from Miyan Mehboob Ali (a sitar player from Kapurthala) and later from Pandit Bhaskar buwa Bakhle (disciple of Bande Ali Khan, Faiz Mohammad Khan, Nathhan Khan and Alladiya Khan). |
