Riyaz Miyan Fakir was basically a Fakir living in Punjab in late 19th century. Though he was a Muslim, he used to worship Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna. He composed several lyrics in the praise of these Hindu deities and that were sung in Ragas and in forms such as Khayal, Sadra, etc by his disciples. He had musical interactions Ustad Sende Khan and Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan of Patiyala Gharana. So, these two stalwarts also took some compositions from him. From these two vocalists, Riyaz Miyan fakir’s compositions came to corpus of Prof. B R Deodhar, who taught them to his disciples such as Dr Ashok Da Ranade, Pandot Sharad Sathe. |
