Wajid Hussain Khan ‘Mehar Piya’ was the youngest son of Imdad Khan of Sehaswan (disciple of Usatd Haddu Khan of Gwalior). He, along with his elder brother Amjad Hussain Khan, got training in music under his father. During 1930 to 1042, he lived in Mumbai. During his Mumbai years, Prof B R Deodhar and Kumar Gandharva learnt many of his beautiful compositions, which were composed with pen-name ‘Mehar Piya’. He shifted to Allahabad in 1946 where he started a music school and died the same place in circa 1952. ‘E Rab Mainu’ in Raga Kukubh Bilawal is his famous Bandish. |
