The classical music exponent was born at Berhampore in Murshidabad district of West Bengal and received his initial training from Pandit Girijashankar Chankraborty. He went into the tutelage of Dabir Khan later in life. Known for his stylish rendition of Khayal, Tappa and Thumri, Ganguly had imparted training to a generation of young vocalists. He had received the coveted Allauddin Khan Bhuwalka Award and State Sangeet Natak Academy honour among other prestigious awards. He died at the age of 95 in the year 2002 and was very active imparting 'Hindustani Classical vocal' lessons to his students right till the end. |
