Born into a musical family, Sukhada’s grandfather Patwardhan Buwa, renowned keertan singer, influenced her from a young age. She first started to learn the basics of classical music while her mother was learning from renowned singer of the Jaipur Gharana – the late Pt. Anandrao Limaye. Sukhada then continued her own learning of classical music after her mother passed away at a young age. Later, she received taleem from one of the greatest singers of the Jaipur Gharana, the late Kamal Tambe (disciple of Mogubai Kurdikar), while pursuing her M.A in music at S.N.D.T. Mumbai. Also while at S.N.D.T., Sukhada received valuable training of classical gayaki from Dr. Prabha Atre and Meenakshi Mudbidri. Continuing her musical journey even after marriage, Sukhada learned the intricacies of Agra and Gwalior Gharana gayaki from her father-in-law Sangitacharya late Pt. D V Kane buwa. She received valuable taleem from her guru on voice control, pronunciation and finesse in singing, and structure in the presentation of any raag. This in turn helped elevate her singing from a classical vocalist to a classical music performer. After the sad demise of Kanebuwa, Sukhada continued her training from his disciples - Pt. Narendra Kanekar, Balasaheb Tikekar and J.V. Bhatkhande Buwa. The rigorous and valuable training that Sukhada has received from her revered gurus has refined her singing skills. She has been performing across many platforms in Maharashtra and outside, such as Alladiya Khan Smruti Samaroha, Rahimat Khan Smriti Mahotsav, Ustad Vilayat Hussein Khan Sangeet Sabha, Pannalal Ghosh Smriti, Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre Mumbai, Swar-Sadhana, N.C.P.A. Mumbai, Gharana Sammelan, Pt. Balkrishnabuwa Ichalkaranjikar Smriti Mahotsav. Various performances at Deval Club Kolhapur include: Centennial Silver Jubilee Ceremony of Deval Club, Nav Kalyan Rang (themed on Kalyan Based Raags), and ‘Guni-Govind’- A musical tribute to late Govindrao Tembe. She has been performing through ‘Guni-Govind’ across various platforms; moreover ‘Guni-Govind’ has been broadcasted via All India Radio across Maharashtra. Sukhada was connected with Shivaji University Music Department and Deval Club of Kolhapur as a classical music teacher for some years. In addition, she recently received the late “Sushilabai Gaanu Award”, awarded by Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalay Mandal. Being a successful performer of Hindustani Classical Music, Sukhada reciprocates her skills and hard work towards her disciples; one of whom recently achieved All India first rank at Sangeet Alankar of Gandharva Mahavidyalay. Her individual training towards each disciple is reflected in their performances, many of whom perform on All India Radio. |
